Confirmation Program

The Youth Ministry Confirmation Program is designed to guide young people of Saint Maximilian Kolbe Parish to take greater personal responsibility for those promises, which were first made for them at their Baptism by their parents and godparents. As candidates preparing for Confirmation, these young people have the choice and opportunity to deepen their relationship with God and to become a more integrated and active member of their parish. The process of preparation is meant to help each young person make an informed and free decision about following Jesus as a young Catholic. Our program traditionally begins when the student has reached 9th grade.

Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the 'sacraments of Christian initiation,' whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed." (CCC 1285)

The Sacrament of Confirmation is a two-year process. Students who have received religious instruction in grades 1-8, either through Catholic School or a parish Religious Education Program are eligible to begin their preparation at the beginning of 9th grade. Since preparation for Confirmation does not occur at any Catholic High School, students are prepared in their own parish. If you or your child is interested in being Confirmed, please contact our Confirmation Program Leaders at 860-583-4697 x303 or confirmation@parish4u.info

In the event of a winter storm (or other emergency), Confirmation Program cancellations will be announced on WFSB (CBS), WTNH (ABC), NBC CT and will be listed as Roman Catholic Community of Terryville. You can also check online at parish4u.info, wfsb.com, wtnh.com, nbcconnecticut.com, or follow us on Twitter @parish4u. An email will also be sent to parents. A makeup class will likely be held the week following any cancelation.
